With Covid-19 pandemic many gyms are closed down. This means more and more people are exercising at home. This has created many DIY injuries. In this article we interview Dr. James Romano, a chiropractor in Middletown, NY. He shares some warnings for those exercising at home.

Dr. Romano reports, “Most of us trying to stay healthy during quarantine are lifting weights at home, walking around the home/outside, playing golf/tennis, or doing home exercises. People who exercise frequently often experience tendinitis-type injuries to their upper or lower extremities. This may include tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, iliotibial band syndrome, and shin splints. Overhead activity including tennis, weightlifting, painting and cleaning may cause various injuries such as bursitis, rotator cuff tendinitis/impingement, as well as neck/upper back pain. Running and walking on the roads, hills and uneven surfaces may cause foot injuries such as Achilles pain and plantar fasciitis.”

Dr. Romano shared chiropractic tips on preventing weekend warrior injury tips for his Middletown NY patients in the past.

Another concern that arose from the various changes involving COVID-19 relates to individuals who are required to work from home, spending hours working on the computer and sitting on the couch/at the kitchen table.

Dr. James Romanon chiropractor in Middletown NY continues, “This tends to result in neck pain, headaches, and mid/low back pain due to poor posture if you don’t have a proper work station. I have also seen an increased number of patients experiencing headaches due to excessive eye strain from computer work and reading, an increase in shoulder pain due to typing and sitting, and an increase in mid/low back pain due to sitting without proper back support and increased stress to the spine.

“If you are experiencing any of these conditions or symptoms, you should contact the office for a thorough evaluation to address these concerns. After evaluation, an appropriate treatment plan will be implemented to treat your condition. It is my goal to keep my patients exercising and working from home without pain. During these times, it is so important to achieve health and happiness while dealing with the affects of the pandemic.”
