Author James Anstead with Ric Bratton in This Week in America

Author James Anstead of the famous limerick book, Around the World in Five Lines made a rare interview for “This Week in America”, hosted by seasoned Radio personality Ric Bratton. The famous host delighted listeners with Anstead‘s writing history, with his mother fostering his love of literature and appreciation of poetry in him. He began a glowing teaching career in 1977 and holds two degrees from Northern Kentucky University: a BA in history and an MA in education. He is currently employed by the Covington Public Schools in Kentucky. His favorite leisure activities include basketball, reading, listening to music, and occasionally singing at a local pub, cooking, and hiking.

He recalled how his 10-year-old self brought out a love for limericks after receiving his Christmas present, a book by Bennet Cerf, and how his mother honed his love for poetry by reading to him narrative poems every day.

He recalled that he started scribbling his now- famous published book while helping out an 8th Grade English class and whose assignment was to write a limerick. He spared some 15 minutes each day, and instantly the words just started to flow like water. After showing his work to his colleagues, he received a positive response that brought forth the birth of his first 200 limericks.

Bratton lauded Anstead for perfectly combining geography and the art of rhyme to share with his readers the wealth of imagination in poetry. His collection traverses from his trips to the Northeast United States, England and, Ireland and reveals both beauty and power of words, with each verse being complemented by the beauty of each place mentioned.

Around the World in Five Lines will do more for children than just teach them limerick. Any deep-thinking kid will realize that it’s the verses that stand out. Anstead was gracious enough to spill out one of his famous limericks for Bratton to his delight.

A certain young man from France
Eagerly wished to attend a dance.
However, his Father said, “Son,
After all that you’ve done,
My answer to you is No Chance.”

Anstead compiled a splendid collection of limericks, for seven years before publishing it. Fans will be thrilled to know that there are more than two-hundred fifty waiting in publication.
